Smart battery management system
The technology comprises an advanced battery management system (BMS) with tailored hardware-software capabilities for efficient monitoring, security, encryption and predictive maintenance of battery systems.
Challenge
Sustainable battery systems are gaining increasing attention and importance with the growing electrification in the transportation sector. The battery passport, which provides comprehensive information throughout the entire battery life cycle, is increasingly coming into focus. In addition to static data, the battery passport also includes dynamic data that is collected and updated by the BMS. The BMS is the central control and monitoring element in every electrochemical energy storage system. Intelligent BMS can provide more in-depth information about the physicochemical state of the cells. IoT-enabled (IoT: Internet of Things) BMS communicate with backend systems, cloud platforms, or local networks via wireless and wired interfaces, enabling functionalities such as remote condition monitoring and real-time data access. Simultaneously, challenges are arising regarding data security, real-time requirements and standardization.
Our Solution
The present invention provides a tailored hardware-software solution in order to overcome the above mentioned challenges and to maintain functionalities such as monitoring, cybersecurity, encryption and predictive maintenance simultaneously and in one tailored system. The smart BMS monitors cell voltages, currents, temperatures and other operating parameters of the battery in real time, and calculates state variables such as state of charge and state of health. A high resolution capture of the internal state of the cells (e.g. aging, degradation, internal resistances) is maintained. Measurement and status data are securely transmitted to higher-level platforms via integrated IoT interfaces and used for analysis, fleet management and energy management. Local intelligence within the BMS enables immediate responses to anomalies.
