Die Kombination von Expansion Mikroskopie mit einer geeigneten Nanoscopy Methode erlaubt die Aufnahme von ultra-scharfen Bildern mittels Lichtmikroskopie. Die ONE-Mikroskopie ermöglicht die Visualisierung von Proteinclustern, Proteinen und sogar einzelner Aminosäuren innerhalb eine Proteins zu machen.  Die Methode könnte nicht nur in der Erforschung biologischer Vorgänge zum Einsatz kommen, sondern auch im Drug-Design, der Diagnostik und der Auflösung von 3D Proteinstrukuren.

A simple metric, based on local changes in the fluorescence lifetime was found to reflect the quality of the STED focus. This metric can be used to correct abberations fast, on-line and continuously over the whole image, using a simple deformable mirror and an elaborated algorythm.
