AI supported ventilation tube

Our smart ventilation tube revolutionizes the monitoring and control of patient ventilation in anaesthesiology, emergency and intensive care medicine. By integrating a MEMS microphone and a suction channel, it enables precise recording and analysis of of respiratory and ventilation parameters in real time. Using advanced detection algorithms, the tube provides medical staff with important information and recommendations to improve the quality of care and detect abnormalities in ventilation at an early stage.

Challenge

Ventilation is provided by a ventilator, which supports the flow of air into and out of the lungs. The complexity of modern ventilators requires sophisticated algorithms to optimally control ventilation patterns. Currently, hospital staff must regularly check whether fluid needs to be suctioned and then manually remove it. In addition to the potential introduction of germs and tracheal injury, each necessary suctioning procedure results in a drop in the therapeutically important minimum pressure, which can lead to the alveoli sticking together (atelectasis). Closed and self-controlled suction systems can significantly reduce staff and time requirements and optimize the ventilation of critically ill patients.

Our Solution

Our innovative ventilation tube with integrated MEMS microphone and suction channel enables precise recording and analysis of breathing and ventilation parameters in real time. Abnormal events during ventilation are automatically detected. The ventilation tube is inserted into the trachea through the nose or mouth. A MEMS microphone is built into the inflatable block cuff of the ventilation tube. It can be used to listen to the breathing pattern in the immediate vicinity of the division into the two main bronchi. The airflow patterns heard can differentiate between different (respiratory) states and detect mucus, pendulum volume and coughing. The aim is to enable closed suctioning with the suction channel also installed in the ventilation tube. A control unit (minicomputer) interprets the status using learned algorithms and makes recommendations to the clinician or implements the information in the control system of modern ventilators.
